Acts 5-6
You can read Acts 5-6 here.
Acts 5 reminds us of Old Testament-like happenings; people being killed on the spot because of something in their heart. In reality, this only happens a couple of times. And whether or not Ananias and Sapphira actually died on the spot, the message remains. Clear is kind, unclear is unkind. Our words have power. Being a part of a community means that what we speak matters, the truth, whether it is perfect or not, matters.
The temptation is usually there, to share half-truths, to try to be something we’re not. When are you tempted to do this? How has this kind of thing impacted your relationship with the church or your community?
Acts 5 highlights these various miracles that were prevalent in the early Jesus movement. Do you still expect miracles to happen today? What kinds of miracles have you witnessed?
Acts 6 gives us insight into how to organize our faith communities. We each have gifts and priorities that all contribute to the mission of building the kingdom of God. What gifts or passions or priorities do you bring to our faith community?
Acts 6 also highlights that diverse communities can be difficult. People who have different backgrounds, cultures, expectations, need different things. When there are differences, sometimes one group can be prioritized over others. How can we avoid this in our community? How can we can for one another equally and bridge things that typically divide?
